How to check if the IUD is successfully inserted

Jan 02,2025

The following three methods can be used to determine the success of intrauterine device insertion:

1. Observe menstrual condition: After getting an intrauterine device (IUD) inserted, the uterus may experience rejection, but if the IUD is successfully inserted, the first menstrual period is usually normal, accompanied by uterine contractions. If there are no other abnormalities after the end of menstruation, it can be preliminarily judged that the intrauterine device has been successfully inserted.

2. Pay attention to abdominal pain and bleeding symptoms: Some women may experience abdominal pain and bleeding symptoms after getting an IUD due to their body's rejection of the IUD. If these symptoms last for a short period of time and gradually disappear, there is usually no need to worry too much. But if the symptoms do not recover for a long time or recur, it is recommended to seek medical examination in a timely manner.

3. Perform B-ultrasound examination: After inserting the intrauterine device, the most intuitive and accurate method of judgment is to perform B-ultrasound examination. The position of the intrauterine device can be clearly seen through ultrasound. If there is no change in the position of the intrauterine device, it indicates successful insertion. If the position drops or deviates, it may lead to contraceptive failure, and timely measures need to be taken to restore it.

Observing menstrual conditions, paying attention to abdominal pain and bleeding symptoms, and performing ultrasound examination are the three main methods to determine whether the intrauterine device is successfully inserted. Among them, ultrasound examination is the most direct and accurate way of judgment.
