The hazards of mixing skincare products

Jan 26,2025

The potential hazards of mixing skincare products mainly include the following three points:

1. Ingredient Conflict and Failure: Skincare products from different brands often contain different ingredients that may be safe and effective when used alone, but may undergo chemical reactions when mixed, leading to the failure of certain ingredients or even the production of harmful substances. For example, some cosmetics containing alcohol may break down face cream with protein composition, thus reducing the skin care effect. When some acidic substances such as salicylic acid and vitamin A alcohol (aldehyde) are mixed and used, they may enhance acidity and increase the potential photosensitivity of the skin. Although this claim has not been scientifically verified, it is recommended to mix them carefully to avoid unnecessary risks.

2. Skin irritation and allergies: Different skincare products have different textures, concentrations, and formulas, and when mixed and used, they may exceed the skin's tolerance range, causing allergic reactions such as redness, swelling, stinging, itching, etc. Especially for people with sensitive skin or those who are prone to allergies, the risk of mixing and using skincare products is higher. When choosing mixed skincare products, it is important to fully understand the ingredients and suitable skin types of the product, and avoid using ingredients that may cause irritation or allergies.

3. Repetitive skincare steps and excessive nutrition: When mixing and matching skincare products, if the skincare steps are not properly arranged, it may lead to certain skincare steps being repeated, such as multiple cleanings or hydration. This not only wastes skincare products, but may also disrupt the natural barrier function of the skin, causing it to become dry, tight, or greasy. If multiple skincare products with similar effects are used simultaneously, such as multiple whitening or anti wrinkle products, it may lead to overnutrition, insufficient skin absorption, and even rejection reactions. When mixing and matching skincare products, attention should be paid to arranging skincare steps reasonably and selecting products with different effects.
